Winter Theme Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

Are you getting excited for the holidays? I am! I am taking the next few weeks off from posting, it will be a much needed break to recharge my creative juices.

But before I take a break I wanted to share a winter theme art journal page with you.

I found these 2 really cute graphics. They are called the Dumpling Dynasty. I am not sure where they came from, but they are adorable. I am not even sure if they are winter themed or not, lol. I just loved the blues and thought it was perfect for my page.

Winter Theme Art Journal Page

Since they were so cute, I thought they would be the focus of the page.

I added a Graphic 45 card as well to complement the Dumpling Dynasty kids.

Winter Art Journal Page

To fill out the page I added ribbon and snowflakes and string and a tassel. The background was painted with blue and white acrylic paint to create the ombre effect.

Add white and blue splatters to get a pretty snow effect and your page is done!

I really enjoyed creating this page! The blues and whites look so wintery.

I will see you after the break! Keep on creating!

Paint Piping- Christmas Tree

Hello Everyone!

I am so excited to show you this new technique that I learned! I have seen paint piping online and I knew I had to try it.

I loved seeing the texture and interest that the paint piping creates.

Of course I had to add glitter! I think that added interest and details that the tree needed. I added the glitter and rhinestones while the paint was wet so it all stuck together.

To finish the tree I added some poinsettias and other details to the base of the tree.

Now it is ready to put on display and enjoy for years to come.

I really enjoyed this technique and I am looking forward to exploring it more in the upcoming year!

Christmas Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

Christmas is almost here! Whew I do not know where the year went!! Now is the time to start my Christmas Art journal pages.

This page was a lot of fun. I started with a page out of a children’s book as my focal point and built the page from there

I love creating pages like this, it is all about layering. Start with the flatter layers and get bulkier as you build. The layers and textures create interest and makes the page fun to look at.

Freshman Year Art Journal Page using HP Sprocket

Hello Everyone!

This fall we had a momentous occasion, our son started college! We miss a lot, but he loves it and is having the time of his life.

I wanted to create an art journal page of him entering his dorm room. Recently I purchased an HP Sprocket to print photos for my art journal pages.

I like the Sprocket, it is a handy little printer and is fun to use. The quality is not the best, but it is fun to use and perfect for art journal pages.

college art journal

We captured this moment as he was going to his dorm room for the first time and the photos were just perfect for this page.

I used a lot of other elements like stencils, and papers and burlap to finish out the look of this page.

Overall I am happy with the Sprocket and I can’t wait to see what other pages I will create with the photos I print

Sunrise Fabric Mixed Media Mask

Hello Everyone!

My local art museum has an annual charity auction and this year I got to participate! The auction is actually in April, but I had to turn my mask in earlier than that, lol.

I really love the challenge of working on a mask, rather than a flat canvas. It was fun to see if my technique for creating landscapes could be translated to a mask, and I think it was a success!

sunrise mask

I used a photo that I took of a sunrise over my local city as a reference photo. Here the photo I took, it is a few years old but I really love it and I thought it would be perfect for this project

Linda Sampson Sunrise photo

The colors really spoke to me and I want to recreate it.

I found that the biggest challenge was to make sure everything stayed adhered to the mask while it dried. Since it is not a flat surface things had a tendency to slide, lol. But I was patient and everything worked out in the end.

This project has encouraged me to look at other object to apply fabric to. Nothing is safe from my fabric, lol

Sunrise Mermaid Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

I had a lot of fun creating this art journal page. I intended to create a mermaid tale, but it does look a little like a whale tale, lol. Oh well, it was fun to create and play with my acrylic paints.

I really enjoy playing with my acrylic paints in my art journal, it relaxes me and get my creative juices flowing.

sunrise mermaid

When I got finished with the ocean and sky I knew I had to add the mermaid tale. Adding in details like this make paintings fun and more personalized. The is my art journal after all, lol.

These quick paintings are fun and I think I will be showing you more of them in the new  year.

Favorite Food Pop Up Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

I got in another journal for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Art Journal and this theme was favorite food! Yum! I love food and this was such a fun page to create!

I wanted to try something new, so I created a pop up art journal page. Let me tell you, pop ups are not that easy, lol

It took me a few tries, but in the end I created a pop up table where I was able to place my favorite foods. I love pizza, and donuts, and cupcakes. (I sounds like a 12 year old, lol) But there you have it, my favorites.

I created a little scene with flooring and wall paper and some plants and a rug, all to create the right place for my pop up table. The video has all the details and I encourage you to check it out!

Christmas Tree Fabric Mixed Media

Hello Everyone!

Christmas is fast approaching and now is the perfect time to make some new Christmas decor!

I found this chipboard tree at my local creative reuse center and I knew it would be perfect for a fabric mixed media project. It is a Paper Studio brand, I think you can find similar items at your local craft stores.

The first layer is paint. I wanted to make sure the tree was green just in case the fabric didn’t cover it all. Then  I added the fabric layer. This added a lot of texture and interest.

christmas tree

Once the fabric was dry it was time to start painting. I have found that these fabric mixed media projects work best if you let the fabric dry overnight rather than using a heat tool.

Once the fabric is dry it is time to add paint. I dry brushed on a few of the Finnabair Metallique and Sparks paint. Then I added the decorations. I used items I found at the Dollar Store and adhered them with hot glue.

christmas tree

Once that was all dry I flicked paint on with a toothbrush. I love how it turned out! This was a lot of fun to create and it will look great in my home. What decor projects are you working on?

WDW Park Icons Canvas- Mixed Media

Hello Everyone!

It is no secret how much I love Disney and visiting Disney World is one of my favorite things to do! When I began my journey into fabric mixed media I just knew that I would need to create some canvases that paid homage to Disney World.

So I created these 4 canvases celebrating each of the 4 parks at WDW.

The first is a pretty pink castle, this is for the Magic Kingdom. It is hard to tell in the photo but there is a lot of glitter and shine on the canvas, especially on the white background.

WDW Park Icons

Then there is EPCOT with an image of Spaceship Earth. This is one of my favorite rides, probably because it is slow and relaxing with lots of air conditioning, lol. Perfect break in the middle of a hot day in Florida, lol

WDW Park Icons

Then we have MGM, no I am sorry Hollywood Studios, lol. I think I will always call it MGM. And I loved the giant sorcerer’s hat that was in the middle of the park for the longest time. I know they removed the hat, but I loved it so much and that reminds me the most of the park, so I thought I would use the hat to depict MGM.

WDW Park Icons

Last but not least is the Animal Kingdom. I love going to this newer park and I have to say the new Avatar section is amazing!

WDW Park Icons

Overall these were so much fun to create and reminisce about going to Disney and I am eager to start my next canvas!

Silhouette Aladdin Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

“You ain’t never had a friend like me!” That is exactly what I thought when I got the most recent Sisterhood of the Traveling Art journal in! The theme is friends and that song just popped into my head from Disney’s Aladdin.

I wanted to create a silhouette of Agrabah and have a sunset or sunrise behind the city.

aladdin art journal

In order to create some dimension and detail I added stars with a stencil and modeling paste before painting with acrylic paint.

aladdin art journal

I did trace the city from a cut out I had (this is because there was no way I could free hand the city, lol) then I painted it back.

aladdin art journal

For the final finishing touch I added rhinestones and blue pearls for additional dimension and interest.

aladdin art journal

I really love how this turned out! For me this was a fun take on the Friends theme, and I think I explore it more in my own journals.
