Hibiscus Flower Fabric Mixed Media

Hello Everyone!

I have another fabric mixed media for you today. I am feeling like I need some spring, so I created this hibiscus flower fabric mixed media canvas.

It was so good to get back into my fabric mixed medias and this one turned out great.

I just used pink and green fabric as my base, this canvas didn’t need a lot of fabric colors to make it work.

The bold flower in the center works great with the green background. And the gold beads in the center off set the flower perfectly.

I love all the texture and interest you get when using fabric. It makes the flower come alive.

Space Beach Girls Collage

Hello Everyone!

Today we have another collage. I created a fun scene with some some girls on the beach and put them in space.

This was so much fun to put the pieces together. The girls look like they are having a lot of fun on top of the Earth, lol

I added some detail to the collage by using my Prima Marketing Watercolors and some hand crafted watercolors.

I think that added just the right touch to this piece.

It is fun to collage and to put two things together that don’t usually go together. Like beach and space.

This was just a fun, quick collage that really enjoyable to create.

Beautiful Stranger Collage

Hello Everyone!

Today I have another collage, this one is titled Beautiful Stranger.

I started with using one of the pages I created for the video how to start a blank journal page. The teal greens and texture just spoke to me and I was inspired to create with it.

The girl is from an old pattern and the balloon behind her is from an old magazine. I found the text in magazines as well.

To finish off the collage I used Gelatos to highlight areas and then I outlined parts with a brush pen. For the last step I took a bottle cap and stamped circles all over using acrylic paint.

I love having are ready created backgrounds in my stash, it helps with the creative process and keeps me inspired.

Cat and Butterflies Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

I am trying something new, and that is doing the art challenge for Oddball Art Co! I am in love with her designs! I just found her (I know, I am behind the times, lol) but now that I found her I want all the digi stamps, lol

I was inspired by the theme, which is “Life Size Leprechauns and Unlucky Clovers.”

I found this fantastic cat on her website I knew that the cat should be on a rock in a field of clovers.

I used college elements for the rock and the four leaf clovers. I used dictionary pages for the background with distress ink, paint, and stencil.

By adding butterflies and dots and quotes to the page I was able to add a lot more interest. I am really loving challenges, I think it allows me to grow as an artist and expand my abilities.

No Sew Junk Journal

Hello Everyone!

In a few months my husband and I will be taking a short trip to Las Vegas! It will be nice to get away and have a small vacation. Since I was so excited I decided to create a no sew junk journal to put all the tickets and postcards and other goodies in.

I used an old text book as the base and added some fabulous purple Elvis fabric and glitter paper for the spine

For the papers inside I used Vegas maps, glitter paper, holographic papers, and other random paper I had in my stash. It was fun to pull out some fun papers and adhere them into to the book in preparation for my trip.

Watercolor Page and Story time

Hello Everyone!

Today I am painting this Prima Princess water color art journal page and doing a little story time. I wanted to talk about why I started Take Time to Create and what it means to me.

I am passionate about taking time to create everyday and that is what I encourage everyone to do. We are all so busy and running from here to there that we forget to stop and relax and to create. Creating can be anything from art to gardening to cooking. Whatever you need to do to feel creative.

Creating everyday helps keep my stress at bay and having a blog and YouTube channel keeps me on schedule and motivated to provide content to you guys. It is what works for me and I love it. I enjoy creating and sharing!

I love teaching and seeing what you guys create.

New Beginnings Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

Today we have a page for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Art Journal and this journal’s theme is New Beginnings.

I love this theme, and it reminded me of springtime and caterpillars turning into butterflies.

This page is an update to the vintage pattern collage girls that I have done in the past. You can visit that blog post here:

New Beginings

It was a lot of fun to revisit this technique and improve upon the designs and add more detail. The traveling art journal is expanding my boundaries and helping me be more creative.

I hope you enjoyed this take in new beginnings. What makes you think of a new beginning and how would you journal it?

Sword in the Stone Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

I have another page for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Art Journal. This theme was a little harder for me, and really challenged me creatively, but in the end I think I found a creative way to approach this theme.

So the theme of this journal is medieval gypsy. I am not sure exactly what that means so I just went with the medieval part, specifically the legend of the Sword in the Stone.

Sword in the Stone
Sword in the Stone

I love this story, and this page reflect this. I created a rock out of fabric, and the background is textured with tissue paper and colored with dylusions sprays.

Sword in the Stone

The best part of this page is that the sword actually goes up and down! So much fun!

I am really loving how this Sisterhood program that I am in really helps me expand my boundaries and stretch my creativity. I can’t wait to see what next month will bring!

Mixed Media Collage Art #1

Hello Everyone!

I have really been getting into collages. It is a fun way to explore my creative process and really stretch me creatively.

I started with a canvas board and added acrylic paint and stencils and stamps and splatters to add detail and dimension to the background.

Collage art
Collage Art- Man in Saturn

Once I was happy with the background I added the collage pieces on top. I like to find images in magazines and catalogs. You never know what can be combined to create an art piece.

To finish the piece I added details with paint pens. I think that added he detail that the piece was missing.

This was a lot of fun and I will continue to explore my collage capabilities this year.

Where do you fine images to use in your collages?

How to Create a Junk Journal

Hello Everyone!

Junk journals are all the over the internet right now! I have always loved junk journals and I want to show you how I create mine.

I use my journals to try out new products or when I go on vacation I like to take my journal and fill it with all the goodies I find along the way like tickets and postcards.

Junk Journal
Junk Journal

These are so much to make with a vintage pattern. I add all kinds of emphrema and washi tape and bits and bobs from my studio.

Junk Journal

For the binding I like to stitch the side, but you can use a long stapler if you want. I add a ribbon to keep it all together.

These are so much to make and I like to take mine everywhere!

If you try it out let me know how it works for you.
