Mixed Media Fabric Pendants

Hello Everyone!

Exciting news! I got published! I am so excited, I sent my pendants to Belle Armoire Jewelry Magazine and got in the June issue!

I love this magazine and it was a huge honor to be included with all the other wonderful artists. I was thrilled to see the magazine at Barnes and Noble!

In the magazine I showed off the fabric pendants that I love to create. So, in the video I showed you how to create these pendants. You can also find them in my Etsy shop.

These pendants are great to feature fabric that important you, or just really pretty. They are not too complicated, and are unique when done. No two pendants look the same.

To create the pendant just cut some fabric a little larger than the pendant. Add E6000 to the pendant then soak the fabric in Gloss Gel. Once the fabric is coated wrinkle it up and squish it into the pendant.

For the finishing touch I add some acrylic paint on the top after they are dry and that adds just the right amount of sparkle and interest.

Once the acrylic is dry it is ready to be worn. The gloss gel really helps the fabric hold its shape. These are so much fun to make, what fabric would you use to create one of these?

Mountain Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

Today I have another page for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Art Journal. The theme was a favorite word or quote. I really loved this theme, it was fun to look at different quotes and see what I want to represent in an art journal page

The quote I chose was “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” Carl Sagan

This means a lot me because I love to go on adventures and to discover new things.

I had so much fun playing with my Dylusions paint creating this night sky background and mountain range.

I added some washi tape and rhinestones, and a beautiful stencil in the sky to finish out my scene.

Art Journal Tour

Hello Everyone!

I have this art journal that is getting a little big to work in, lol. It very puffy and unwieldy, so I decided that I am done creating in it. So I filmed an art journal tour so you can see all the pages I created in my journal

Some of the pages I did video tutorials and some of the pages I did not. It was fun to create and explore in this journal, and it was fun to look back at my growth.

I explored so many different techniques and styles, this was my safe space. A journal where I could explore and create without always worrying if it was “right” or not.

I did have some extra blank pages at the end of the journal, so I removed them to use them later. I really like this journal (it is a Ranger journal) the paper held up to all the different mediums I used. I love the larger size, I will be repurchasing this same journal to continue my journey.

I am excited to keep creating and to finish more journals.

Have you completed a journal and what is your favorite one to work in?

Beautiful Stranger Collage

Hello Everyone!

Today I have another collage, this one is titled Beautiful Stranger.

I started with using one of the pages I created for the video how to start a blank journal page. The teal greens and texture just spoke to me and I was inspired to create with it.

The girl is from an old pattern and the balloon behind her is from an old magazine. I found the text in magazines as well.

To finish off the collage I used Gelatos to highlight areas and then I outlined parts with a brush pen. For the last step I took a bottle cap and stamped circles all over using acrylic paint.

I love having are ready created backgrounds in my stash, it helps with the creative process and keeps me inspired.

Mixed Media Collage Art #1

Hello Everyone!

I have really been getting into collages. It is a fun way to explore my creative process and really stretch me creatively.

I started with a canvas board and added acrylic paint and stencils and stamps and splatters to add detail and dimension to the background.

Once I was happy with the background I added the collage pieces on top. I like to find images in magazines and catalogs. You never know what can be combined to create an art piece.

To finish the piece I added details with paint pens. I think that added he detail that the piece was missing.

This was a lot of fun and I will continue to explore my collage capabilities this year.

Where do you fine images to use in your collages?

Weekend Mixed Media Classes with Finnabair

Hello Everyone!

A couple of weekends ago I had the most magical, special weekend! I was able to take 4 mixed media classes from the amazing Finnabair! She is so wonderful and sweet and patient, and I learned a ton from her!

I did a try to keep my squeals and fan girling to a minimum, but I am not sure I succeeded, lol. It was just so awesome!

See here we are, bffs now, lol.

I am only kidding, but just a little bit. It was so nice to spend the time with her at Mojito Creek, a retreat in Colorado. I have been there before, and I love it there! You can read my review on the retreat here: Mojito Creek Review Link

You can check out Finnabair here: Finnabair’s website

And you can check out Mojito Creek here: Mojito Creek’s website

I did a video of the projects we completed and you can see that here:

At the end of this post I will add affiliate links to some of the supplies we used, but there was just too many to list all of them.

The first project we did is the Book of Rust. I loved learning more about the rust paste and how to use it and just to get better with it. I am going to incorporate more rust into my projects because I love the look of rusty old things.

The next project is the long skinny canvas with rust paste and patina. I loved learning about how to use the patina, I have the paint at home but I never use it. Now I know what it can do and I am excited to add this medium to my projects!

That wrapped up the classes for Friday. It was a long day full of learning and exploring and I was ready for bed that night! The next day we got up not too early and started our day learning how to do 2 more projects.

The first one was the journal. This picture is the cover we made, I don’t have a pic of it reassembled. But it did go back together nicely, lol. I love this journal and I have been using it to make art journal pages, which is so nice because I have missed making art journal pages.

The last project is the moonlight one. I have to say this is the one I was most excited to learn! I love the technique and the final canvas is just so pretty.

All of these projects were so much fun to make! And I actually finished all the projects while I was at Mojito Creek, so that was nice to actually come home with finished projects! If she comes to Colorado again I will be sure to sign up for her classes! This a dream come true and I can wait to incorporate what I learned into my projects!

Here is the list of some of the products I used (they are all affiliate links)

Hot Air Balloon Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone!

Lately I have been getting back to my Art Journal and I have been in love! It is so great to get back to painting and creating without worrying about selling it (I have been doing a lot of craft fairs lately).

If you follow me on You Tube you probably have already seen my time lapse video of my journal page, but in case you didn’t here is the video:

I used a lot of material that I had on hand, which is fun to use what I have.

Materials: (affiliate links)

Instructions:

I started with my Dylusions Creative Journal from Ranger. I love this journal it is big and the paper is thick and doesn’t warp when I add a lot of paint and mediums on it.

I painted light blue all over and while it was still wet I painted dark blue on then layered the champagne color on top. I didn’t blend it all together, but kept the colors a little separate with a little blending.

Hot Air Balloon Art journal page

Completly dry that layer before going on to the next step. The back ground was nice but it needed more texture, so I stenciled in some circles using the dark blue and a teal color.

Once that was dry I stamped swirls on top with archival in . They don’t have to be perfect, in fact I think it all looks better when things are not exactly perfect.

Hot Air Balloon Art journal page

While that is all drying I cut out some hot air balloons I found in a magazine and adhered them down with matt medium.

The journal page was starting to look better but it needed a little bling, so I added some resin dots I found at the dollar store and I added some great quotes from Tim Holtz Big Chat stickers. (I love these stickers!)

Then I splashed white acrylic paint on the page and then went around the edges of the balloons with a black gelato.

For the final touch I outlined major elements with a white gel pen.

Art Journal pages are so much fun!

What is  your favorite journal to work in?
