WDW Park Icons Canvas- Mixed Media

Hello Everyone!

It is no secret how much I love Disney and visiting Disney World is one of my favorite things to do! When I began my journey into fabric mixed media I just knew that I would need to create some canvases that paid homage to Disney World.

So I created these 4 canvases celebrating each of the 4 parks at WDW.

The first is a pretty pink castle, this is for the Magic Kingdom. It is hard to tell in the photo but there is a lot of glitter and shine on the canvas, especially on the white background.

Then there is EPCOT with an image of Spaceship Earth. This is one of my favorite rides, probably because it is slow and relaxing with lots of air conditioning, lol. Perfect break in the middle of a hot day in Florida, lol

Then we have MGM, no I am sorry Hollywood Studios, lol. I think I will always call it MGM. And I loved the giant sorcerer’s hat that was in the middle of the park for the longest time. I know they removed the hat, but I loved it so much and that reminds me the most of the park, so I thought I would use the hat to depict MGM.

Last but not least is the Animal Kingdom. I love going to this newer park and I have to say the new Avatar section is amazing!

Overall these were so much fun to create and reminisce about going to Disney and I am eager to start my next canvas!

DIY Magic Band and Magic Keeper

Hello Everyone!

As many of you already know I am headed to Disney World soon to participate in the Crochet Crowd’s Wish Upon A Stitch! I am so excited!  So to prep for the trip I have been making new Mickey Ears like this Black Rose one and I just finished a DIY Magic Band and Magic Keeper!

This is the new Magic Band 2- so that means you can pop the middle part out and put it in a Magic Keeper! I love the versatility of the new Magic Bands.

I made a Mulan Inspired Magic Band this time (Last Time I did a Steampunk Beauty and the Beast– here is the link to the Blog Post and Video)

I painted a base coat with nail polish then I painted 3 coats of this beautiful red color and I painted the edges with a copper color. Use nail polish, it seems to work the best with magic bands. The last one I had held up really well and so I am doing the same thing this time.

Just like last time I added a watch face because I wear my magic band on my left hand and I didn’t want it to interfere with my watch.

Once the nail polish was dry I glued (I used E6000) on charms and rhinestones and whatever else I could find. I found a Dragons, Chinese Coins, Rhinestones, flower, and a sword for symbolizing Mulan.

Once the glue was dried I painted a final coat of base coat on the magic band. Let it all dry and you are good to go!

Fair warning-It may not work with all the paint on the magic band… I had no problems last time, but you never know with the new version. I will try it out and let you know how it goes.

These Magic Keepers are so cute, but plain black. I just have to paint everything, and I think it looks so cute now that it is done!

I painted a layer of clear gesso to prime the plastic to prep it for water marbling. For water marbling I just had a bin of water and then I placed drops of nail polish and swirled them around. Once I was happy with my marbling I dipped my Magic Keeper in the water and it turned out so cute!

Once it was dry I added some holographic nail polish on top to add some sparkle, you can never have too much sparkle.  Once it is all dry I added a layer of base coat on the top to seal it, now it is good to go for my week at Disney!

DIY Halloween Floral Mickey Mouse Ears

Hello Everyone!

DIY Halloween Floral Mickey Mouse Ears! What more do you need for a trip to Disney World?

As many of you already know, I love Disney! It is my happy place and I love being able to go. In Oct I will be crocheting with the Crochet Crowd at Disney World! I am so excited!

As I get ready for this awesome adventure I decided I needed new Mickey Mouse ears! I like to make a pair for each day I am there, so get ready to see more ears, lol.

This first pair uses black eyeball roses from the dollar store. They are so cute and since I will be there during Halloween,  these ears will be perfect!

This is a pretty easy project, which is great because I will need to make a few, lol

Materials:

  • Headband (I found a pack on eBay)
  • Thick foam
  • Felt
  • Hot Glue
  • Roses
  • Combs
  • Ribbon
  • Mickey Ear Template (I found mine here: Template)

Instructions:

Cut out your template, save it when you are done in case you want to make more ears

Cut some felt in the shape of your ear template.

To help thicken up your ears add some thick foam to the center of your ears. The flowers need a little help stabilizing.

Hot glue your foam and felt to your headband. Be mindful of the placement, you don’t want your ears too close together and not too far apart. Then I added ribbon along the edge to cover up the foam.

Now it time for the fun part, hot glue your roses on to your ears. I used 6 bundles of roses from the dollar store. (4 were ones with eyeballs and 2 were just plain black roses) Go to town filling you ears with roses. I do the front and backs when I make ears, I think they turn out nicer that way. Add spiders and any other spooky element you want.

I did add some hair combs to the headband to help keep it on my head. They are not heavy, but the combs help them stay on your head.

Now you are ready to rock your new ears! This is a big, bold look that will be perfect for Disney!

DIY Cinderella draw string bag

Last weekend while I was at the dollar store I saw these magic towels. I had seen them before and I thought they looked neat, but I don’t like using them as actual towels. They are thin and scratchy so I have never purchased them. When I saw them this weekend my crafty, creative juices started flowing. So I bought a few or 15. Whatever. I am sure I will find uses for them.

Here are some of the awesome magic towels I picked up. So many choices! I can’t wait to get my crafting on!

For this project I thought I would decorate a plain drawstring bag. I have to say that everything is better with sparkles and Cinderella!

My son is so patient and tolerant modeling my new bag. He didn’t even protest when I asked him to model my bag. He makes my heart sing Red heart

This is pretty easy to do and you can use any magic towel to customize it to  you heart’s content.

Materials:

~ magic towel (prewashed and ironed. You want to make sure it is flat and ready to use)

~ Wonder under or any iron on fusible web. ( I just used what I had on hand)

~ Fabric Paint

~ Scissors

~ rhinestones

~ Rhinestone glue. ( I used Aleene’s Jewel it)

Instructions:

1. Wash and dry and iron your magic towel. That gets it ready for its transformation.

2. Iron your drawstring bag. I got my bag at JoAnns, but I am sure you can find them just about anywhere.

3. Iron your fusible web on to the back of the towel.

4. Carefully cut out Cinderella.

5. Peel the backing off. You can see the Cinderella wording and shoe, but I decided not to use them.

7. When Cinderella is cool start going around the edge with fabric paint. I found that I had to make a thicker line than I usually do because of how thick the towel is. I wanted to make sure the towel won’t unravel and that Cinderella stayed in place.

Once that was done I had Cole try on the bag and I decided that it didn’t have enough sparkle. I am sure you surprised that I didn’t think it had enough sparkles, right?

8. I had these packets of rhinestones that I found at the dollar store that I thought would work perfectly. They are connected together in strips, which worked perfectly.

9. I laid the strips out in a pattern that I liked

10. Once I got it how I liked I glued the rhinestones down. This is to make sure the rhinestones stay on the bag.

11. let dry over night and then you are ready to rock an awesome Cinderella bag. Doesn’t Cole look great rocking the bag? He is a great sport.

DIY Mickey Messenger Bag

When we went to Disneyland I decided that I “needed”  a new bag to hold my wallet and essentials. I didn’t want it too big, just big enough to carry what I needed for the day. Of course I decided that I needed this bag the day before we left. And of course I wanted to use a product that I have never used before. Nothing can go wrong with this scenario, right?? wrong! All kinds of things happened and and few tries later I ended up with a new bag. It only took me 3 times as long, but it did get done Smile

I will give you the instructions on how you should do it  and I will even tell you what not to do, haha!

Materials:

~ messenger bag

~ stencil of what you want to create

~ Graphite paper

~ rhinestones

~ fabric paint

~ E-6000 glue

~ Silver Sharpie

 

Instructions:

1. Pick out the messenger bag you want to decorate. I found this black on at Hobby Lobby, and I used a coupon so it wasn’t too expensive. Much cheaper than anything I would find at Disney in their stores Smile . It worked very well, except with all the decoration the flap was a little heavy and when I snapped it the flap would fold weird. So I just never snapped the flap and let it hang, and that worked out just fine.

2. Print out what you what to put on your bag, I found a Mickey head silhouette and the quote. I downloaded a free Disney font and typed the quote in a word processing program and printed it at home. (here is the first problem I had. Instead of the stencil I cut out the Mickey shaped with  glitter iron on transfer paper. then I tried to iron it onto the bag.  It didn’t iron on well and was pealing up. I decided to try again, so I picked off the first one and made a new Mickey head and ironed it on again. Once again it did not work. So I picked off what I could and went on to plan B.  I am going to have to figure out what I did wrong. Do you guys have any thought or suggestions?)

3. Place your stencil and quote on the bag.

4. Cut out some graphite, big enough to put under the quote. Trace the quote onto the bag and the graphite paper will transfer the quote onto the bag. The graphite paper I had was hard to read, but manageable

5. Trace the words with a silver Sharpie. I traced it about 3 times. A fabric marker would work as well.

6. I used Stickles in 2 colors to fill in the stencil. This is another example of a project not working as well as I thought. Stickles are not really good for fabric. We all know this, but if you remember I was doing this the night before we left so I had to use what I had on hand and that was Stickles. I put 2 coats of Stickles on then put a coat of E-6000 glue over the top to seal it in. It worked ok and held up for the week, but I think it would have been better with fabric paint.

7. Once your Mickey is on and your quote is good to go then add Rhinestones all over. Originally I planned on the bag with no rhinestones, but it was a little too plain for my tastes and I added the sparkle.

That is it. It held up all week with only a few rhinestones falling off, but that is not bad considering all the problems I had along the way.

Easy DIY Mickey Button Earrings!

20150630_130943These are super simple, and are easy enough to make a bunch or have your kiddos help.

So simple to make

Materials:

2 larger buttons

4 smaller coordinating buttons

earring backs

hot glue

All you do is find some buttons that go together and glue them in a Mickey shape. (This is my favorite part, I love digging through buttons. It reminds me of when I was a little girl, my mom was always sewing something for us and we were always digging through her buttons)

Then glue it on an earring back. Wear them with pride!

See easy, right

I think I will need to make more in all the colors of the rainbow and make a bigger one for a necklace.

Disney Bottle cap Jewelry

I love going to Disney, I think I have mentioned it once or twice:)

So every time I go I make new things to take with me. Well, we are headed to Disneyland in a few weeks so I decided I needed new jewelry. These are so easy to make.

Materials

Bottle caps (I found a bunch on Amazon)

Bottle caps prints (I just Googled for free images, but you can purchase some really cool images from Etsy). After I found my prints I just printed them up on my little photo printers so that the images were glossy. You can send them out to print or print them on you home printer. If you use regular paper in an ink jet printer I would coat the top with mod podge or some kind of sealer.

Circle punch about the same size as your image, or if you are steady you can free hand cut out the image

glue, I hot glued the image to the bottle cap and used e6000 to glue the cap to the jewelry. But you can use what works for you.

Directions:

This is so simple:

  1. print images
  2. cut out images
  3. glue to bottle cap
  4. coat image if needed (I didn’t with the photo paper)
  5. glue the bottle cap to your ring or
  6. punch hole in the top of the bottle cap and add a jump ring for a necklace or add a hook earring for earrings or glue a pin back on for a pin. The options are endless!

That is it, pretty easy right? Now you have really cool custom jewelry to wear at Disney, or all the time.

Steampunk Disney Magic Band

We went to Walt Disney World in January so we got to try out the new Magic Bands. This was my first time using them, and overall I was impressed. But I couldn’t just leave it plain, oh no! I needed to decorate it!

I decided on a Steampunk tribute to Beauty and the Beast.

Here is the finished Magic Band! I have to say, I really love how it turned out!

I think it turned out pretty cool. Unfortunately there are no pictures of me during the creation processes, but I do have the finished product. I wore it every day for a week and it held up great. I was gentle with it, but not overly so. I only had 1 piece fall off and I just replace it that night. I brought with me a small bottle of E6000 and some spare pieces for just such an occasion.

Material needed

  1. E6000
  2. Steampunk pieces ( I found mine in the jewelry section at Michael’s)
  3. Watch face (I found mine on Etsy)
  4. Rhinestones (again, Michael’s to the rescue).
  5. Nail polish and top coat
  6. Empty water bottle to hold Magic Band while you are working

Here is what I did to decorate the Magic Band

  1. I cut the band down to size so it fit me.
  2. I put the band around a water bottle so that I could work on it.
  3. I painted the band with nail polish in 2 colors. I can’t remember what the colors were but one was a Sally Hansen and the other was an OPI. I used several coats to get the color I wanted. The inside part is a different color from the outside edge.
  4. Then I put a few layers of top coat of nail polish on.
  5. Then I started gluing on the pieces with E6000. I started with a few pieces and then started adding a few more. I wanted a layered look that had a lot going on, but not too much…
  6. I went over the top of the rhinestones with top coat so that they would stay down. This did take away from the shine, but they stuck better.
  7. As you decorate make sure you don’t cover your Mickey head, it won’t work if you do (believe me, originally I did have something covering the Mickey and it didn’t work so I had to take my repair kit out and fix it…)
  8. I added a watch face to my Magic Band. I wore it on my left wrist, right where I wear my watch and I didn’t want to have to wear both, so I added a watch to my Magic Band. It worked great! The watch stayed on perfectly and worked the whole time!
